You Are Homeless in North Wiltshire
If you
are homeless now :-
If
you have nowhere to go tonight and can’t stay with family
and friends and its between 8.45am and 5.15pm (Monday
to Thursday) or 8.45am to 4.45 pm (Friday), please contact the
North Wiltshire Council Housing Advice Team on 01249 706666 and
you will be advised according to your situation.
If it is outside
normal working hours (after 5.15pm), please contact the Council’s
out of hours service on 01249 706111 and leave a message with
the pager service - a Council Officer will then phone you back
directly.
The
following day you may need to go to the North Wiltshire District
Council offices or contact the Housing Advice Team by telephone
to apply to have your case assessed under homelessness legislation.
If
you are at risk of being made homeless :-
If
you know that you are likely to be without somewhere to live soon
because you:
- Have
been asked to leave by family or friends
- Will
be evicted by your landlord
- Are
likely to lose your house because of mortgage arrears
- Any
other reason
You
should contact North Wiltshire District Council on 01249 706111
(Monday to Thursday 8.45am to 5.15pm and Friday 8.45am to 4.45pm)
and request to speak to a Housing Options Advisor to explain your
case. If necessary they will arrange an appointment for you.
The Housing Advice
Team will assess your case under the 1996 Housing Act and the
Homelessness Act 2002. These government acts explain who will
be provided with temporary or emergency accommodation and who
are to be given assistance in terms of advice and support.
It is important
to note that the Housing Advice Team only deal with people's temporary
or emergency accommodation (i.e. B&B or hostel style accommodation).
Regarding your
long-term housing needs, it is advisable to place your name on
the Housing Register run by Westlea Housing Association on behalf
of North Wiltshire District Council. The telephone number for
