Pupils
from Hardenhuish’s School Council visited Doorway, the
drop-in centre in Chippenham for homeless and marginalised
adults, to present a cheque for £1,220.96 and to learn
more about the work of the centre.
Lewis
Hall, Hardenhuish School Citizenship Coordinator said: “Each
year the Hardenhuish School Council decides upon a charity
that the school can support through fundraising events such
as non-uniform days. This is entirely a student led decision.
The tradition has always been to support a local charity and
this year they chose Doorway to be the beneficiary. I was
personally very pleased with their choice because a Hardenhuish
parent had some time ago drawn my attention to the issue of
homelessness in Chippenham and the work of Doorway. They are
certainly a very worthy cause.
I am hoping that the school can now build on this link with
Doorway by raising the awareness of local homelessness through
our citizenship curriculum.”
Margaret Cleverley, Doorway’s Project Manager said.
”We are delighted to receive this magnificent cheque
raised by students at Hardenhuish school. It is a tremendous
boost to our funds and will be put to very good use on behalf
of some of the most needy people in our community.
We are looking forward to working with the students next year
to raise awareness of the issues surrounding homelessness
in this rural area and of the positive work Doorway does,
giving hope to homeless and marginalised people and supporting
them to move on in their lives.”
