Volunteer Information Day & Active Listening Day

Doorway is holding an Recruitment /Information day on Tuesday 21st April 2009 9am - 1pm for anyone interested in volunteering for the project.

There will be talks about what we do and the chance to ask questions before making any commitment to the project.

The energy and skills that our volunteers bring to the project are crucial to our success, helping people move on in their lives and we need the following to join our friendly team:-

Befrienders who will sit and share a meal with guests, providing an opportunity for them to talk or join in activities. They also help guests to make phone calls and contact other specialist agencies for help and support.

Catering Assistants who are prepared to do a variety of tasks such as preparing and serving food, washing up, cleaning kitchen equipment and ensuring the smooth running of the kitchen.

Cooks who help plan, prepare and cook meals (breakfasts on Mondays and 2-course lunches on Thursdays) for an average of 40 to 50 people.

General Helpers who are prepared to do a variety of tasks i.e. making tea/coffee for guests, carrying out laundry duties, sorting clothing and food parcels for guests, and general tidying up after the sessions.

Volunteers receive full training and support and we reimburse all expenses, such as travel to the centre and car parking. Free meals are also provided.

For many of our volunteers, most important is the chance to work with friendly, like-minded people who are making a real difference in the lives of some of our local community’s most disadvantaged people.

Doorway is also running an Active Listening Day on Tuesday 28th April 2009 9am - 4pm at the Salvation Army Hall in Chippenham and has a few places available to other voluntary organisations.

The course is suitable for any staff or volunteers who wish to improve their listening skills and is presented in an informal and friendly way, by David Thomson who has many years’ experience in training and counselling. Please bring your own lunch.

To book a place at our recruitment session, or the Active Listening Day, and to receive a volunteer information pack please phone 01249 445385 or email info@doorwayproject.org.uk
