Volunteer With Us
Having taken on several new volunteers recently, we’re not able to recruit volunteers for the sessions and groups for the time being. If you don’t mind waiting and would still like to fill in and send us a form (see below), we’ll get in touch when we have vacancies available.
We are however in need of more people who can spare some time to help us with fundraising and representation at ad hoc events – please let us know if you are interested in this work (visit the Fundraise With Us page for more info). This is a good option for those who want to help out but work during our opening hours, and is a brilliant way to help Doorway.
We have a pool of around 50 volunteers who undertake a variety of roles on a rota basis. These include cooks, kitchen assistants, befrienders, people with IT skills, and people with relevant experience to help run groups.
Volunteers benefit from regular training in a wide range of subjects – recent training has included mental health awareness, an overview of drug & alcohol abuse, autism, First Aid, modern slavery and self-defence.
If you’re interested in volunteering for Doorway drop-in sessions (including cooking roles) please download, complete and return this form. We ask for two referees to which should be people the applicant has known for over two years in any capacity (just not relations or partners). Email addresses for these are really helpful if possible.
We ask for all our volunteers to undertake an induction process and we will organise enhanced DBS checks for those who intend to work with our guests.
We are also forming a group of volunteers to help raise awareness and funds for Doorway in the community – ‘Doorway Does’ – see our Fundraise With Us page for more info.
Volunteering at Christmas
Whilst we are grateful for the increase in awareness and the extra donations that are generated during the winter months and the run-up to Christmas, unfortunately it is not possible to volunteer at Doorway only for the Christmas period. Sadly homelessness is a year-round problem and therefore we ensure that our volunteers are prepared to make a longer term commitment to volunteering.
